Summary/Abstract: The article presents the possibilities of using the measurement of pupils’ achievements to strengthen cooperation between teachers and to develop solutions supporting the preparation for the eighth-grade Polish language examination. The solution applied as part of the activities carried out in the project Monitoring the skills of students of the 7th grade of primary school, conducted in cooperation between researchers from the University of Warsaw and the authorities and teachers from schools in Ostrołęka, was the analysis of the results of a diagnostic test conducted using the SWOT technique. The conducted activities confirmed that participation in the process of internal evaluation encourages teachers to take a multifaceted approach to the results obtained by students and enables them to observe quantitative data in a broader context. SWOT analysis requires launching a process of positive thinking, moving away from focusing only on mistakes and deficiencies. This multifaceted approach makes one realise that the same test results can indicate both weaknesses and strengths of students. This process activates teachers and involves them in the diagnostic process, thus making them jointly responsible for its purpose and results. This type of analysis also provides important support for teachers preparing students for different types of examinations.
