Summary/Abstract: This study briefly presents the development of diplomatic and commercial relations between Romania and the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the end of the 19th century and in the first four decades of the 20th century. The focus is on identifying and presenting primary and secondary documentary sources available at that time for a more detailed scientific analysis of the subject approached in this article. The Kingdom of the Netherlands established its first diplomatic representation on the present Romanian territory in 1841, but trade relations and the presence of Dutch-flagged ships in Romanian ports began to intensify only in the last two decades of the 19th century, an opportunity for us to highlight the nature and structure of imports and exports between the two countries. The information found in the National Archives of the Netherlands collections in The Hague and in the Danube and Black Sea ports of Romania was of real help. The present article is only the first step we take so as to give a more accurate picture of the Dutch-Romanian relations, with a view to filling the existing historiographical gap.
