Summary/Abstract: This article is a monographic presentation of Fr. Władysław Godlewski. The author came across this 19th-century figure while writing a monograph on the clergy of the Great Emigration. The prosopographic nature of this study did not allow all biographical details of Godlewski’s life to be covered. Although several studies in biographical dictionaries are available, is life story contains some inaccuracies that call for supplementation. The article presents Godlewski’s youth, his involvement in the November Uprising, education, and his exile in England, Belgium, Italy (Rome) and France. The most emphasis is laid on his pastoral ministry, especially preaching. Initially, Władysław Godlewski was associated with the Resurrectionists, but he soon left this congregation. He conducted pastoral activities in several centers of the Great Emigration, mostly in the Polish Mission in Paris.The article is based on studies, émigration press and preserved correspondence and texts of homilies from the archives of the Resurrectionists in Rome, the Polish Library in Paris and the Czartoryski Library in Kraków.
