Summary/Abstract: The right to life is the highest value protected by law, including by criminal law. Due to phenomena such as abortion and euthanasia, crimes against life remain relevant. As a rule, individual countries in their criminal laws protect human life, but the catalogue of the types of crimes and normative content of the particular provisions can vary. The subject of this paper is a comparative consideration of crimes against life in Polish and Austrian criminal law. The aim of this study is to identify similarities and differences between regulations. The research includes an analysis of the statutory features of crimes against life contained in Polish and Austrian legal provisions. The discussion is concluded with a comparison of Polish and Austrian provisions and an indication of the similarities and differences between regulations. The main conclusion of this paper is that Polish criminal law and Austrian criminal law show common and different features in the way of regulating crimes against life. The analysis is based on views of legal dogmatics and judicial practice. The paper was written based on Polish and foreign source materials.
