Summary/Abstract: The aim of the proposed publication is not to make a comprehensive historiographical analysis and subsequent revision of Derzhavin's works on Bulgarian history, but to focus on a relatively short, but extremely interesting chronological span of a few months in 1945, during which the venerable Soviet academician resided in Bulgaria. Ultimately, we can conclude that the political expectations of Derzhavin's stay in various strata of Bulgarian society were greatly overestimated. If Derzhavin was, after all, sent on some kind of mission to Bulgaria, it could be assumed that it was mainly limited to promoting the Soviet version of the Slavic idea in his capacity of as a distinguished Slavist, member of the Presidium of the Moscow All-Slavic Committee and head of the Slavic Commission at the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
