Summary/Abstract: The aim of the proposed publication, as is evident from its title, is to reveal the roots of the Soviet Slavophilism that exploded during the years of the Second World War. In this case, we are talking about a not so well researched process before the German attack on the Soviet Union, immediately after which the idea of Slavic unity was instantly resuscitated by the Kremlin and put into propaganda circulation. The culmination of the political use of this idea came in the years in which the Soviet Union was gripped in a deadly struggle with Nazi Germany, on the outcome of which its very existence depended. In order to fully clarify the question of how the Slav idea came to be taken up in arms by the Soviet propaganda apparatus, it is necessary to briefly review both the changes that occurred in pre-war Bolshevik ideology and the more distant in time Russian Pan- Slavism. At the same time, for a more comprehensive understanding of the issues addressed in the publication, it is necessary to show in development the general historical background against which the events and processes find their manifestation.
