Summary/Abstract: The Faculty of Law of the West University of Timişoara has initiated, in 2023, when Timişoara is the European Capital of Culture, a long term project that it proposes to the Timişoara community, known for its multi ethnic and multicultural character: the conference series Judges of Europe. Europe of judges, in which the West University of Timişoara will host as guest lectures current and former judges at the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights. They will discuss topics related to the cohesive power of law, through its international and regional dimension, in the context of an increased risk of fragmentation in Europe. The inaugural lecture of this conference series was delivered on November 11, 2023, by Mrs. Octavia Spineanu Matei, Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union, President of the Ninth Chamber, under the title Europe of Judges. Reality or aspiration?
