Summary/Abstract: The article is centered around the problem of language as a reflection of intellectual phylogeny. Its development is the transition from the primary genetic deep structures of the spoken language to the secondary, cultural deep structures of literary language. The diachronic tracing of the stylistically differentiated surface structures fixed in literature in their cause-and-effect relationship is the authentic history of the literary language. The new methodology of its study, proposed by the author, is practically justified by basic facts from the development of the Bulgarian literary language.
