Summary/Abstract: The figure of Pierre François Percy is much less known compared to other surgeons from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. He deserves to be known primarily because of the contribution he made with regards to ensuring quick access to medical help on the battlefield. He was focused on educating future military surgeons, which raised the profile of the profession. Percy covered topics that were related to surgery in his numerous publications, but he also discussed issues that fell under the scope of epidemiology and military hygiene. Additionally, he promoted the prevention of infectious diseases and the introduction of the smallpox vaccine. Another area to which he devoted a lot of attention was the organization of medical assistance at the middle level, including: the concept of creating a separate institution of stretcher bearers and preparing a special formation manual. His contributions to humanitarian actions cannot be forgotten, especially with regards to the inviolability of military doctors on the battlefield. Percy was also a figure who could easily be called a humanist. His travels around Europe with Napoleon’s troops also included getting to know the places he visited and taking an interest in the different cultures and monuments from the past that he encountered, the fascination for which was recorded in his diaries.
