Negative effects of overwintering of agricultural crops as an insurance risk

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study it to present the risk of negative effects of overwintering, which on an annual ba- sis lead to significant losses in agricultural crops in Poland.This is due to the fact that difficulties with securing this risk are reported not only by agricultural producers, but also by insurance companies. On the other hand, the State implements various forms of assistance which take millions of zlotys.The pe- riod discussed in the study covers the years 2008–2012.The detailed analysis of the risk of negative effects of overwintering concerns winter cereals, rape and agrimony crops in the individual provinces in the 2011/2012 winter period.In the first place, the terms connected with the risk of negative effects of overwintering have been explained.Then, selected aspects connected with crop insurance against such a risk have been present- ed. The paper concludes with an analysis of forms of assistance for farmers and agricultural producers in whose farms losses caused by negative effects of overwintering have been identified.
