Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to present an analysis of development of compulsory third-party liability insurance of farmers and insurance of buildings forming part of an agricultural farm. The analysis was prepared on the basis of data of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) for the 2006-2011 period. In comparison with 2006 the share of concluded compulsory insurance agreements grew in relation to the number of private farms larger than 1ha in 2011. This situation was caused by the decreasing number of farms and the phenomenon of double insurance. Taking into account the number of double insurance occurrences, it may be presumed that the knowledge of legal regulations and terms of the signed agreements is insufficient among a significant proportion of farmers. That is why new regulations that impose informative role on insurance companies are indispensable. Moreover, there is a need for information campaigns on compulsory insurances. The consequences of the lack of insurance policy are not limited to financial penalty alone. They also include the loss of property and difficulties to restore financial situation from before the accident that caused damage to property.
