Summary/Abstract: This contribution deals with the relationship between the development ofbusiness environment and university education and with monitoring activities directedat encouraging entrepreneurship at universities. A questionnaire survey was used toidentify obstacles preventing students from starting their own businesses; subsequently, recommendations have been formulated to advice universities and other institutionson activities directed at encouraging entrepreneurship. The findings show thatthe business environment in Czechia is similar to the situation within the EU (Czechiain 2019 amounted to approx. 96% of the EU (28) average from 2016). The monitoringof support provided by universities to entrepreneurship shows that the amount ofcourses directed towards the supporting of entrepreneurship is sufficient. The mainshortcomings of universities regarding the support of entrepreneurship are the lowchances of obtaining financial support and the insufficient fostering of entrepreneurshipon the part of university educators. The contribution of this paper lies in, on onehand, identifying obstacles seen by students as preventing them from beginning theirown entrepreneurial career and, on the other hand, in forming recommendationsfor universities. The conclusions of this study may be useful for universities and forinstitutions providing grants for the promotion of entrepreneurship.
