Summary/Abstract: Following the independence of Kyrgyzstan, the country was unable to maintain a long-term political stability, resulting into the overthrown of its political leaders by the people revolts in 2005 and 2010. In this matter, Kyrgyzstan has a unique character among the Central Asian states. This work will investigate the causes of the people revolts, mainly concentrates on the internal structural problems (such as socio-economic, ethnic and corruption) and dynamics (such as Kyrgyz-Uzbek clashes) related with these structural problems. In addition, this paper will focus on the Kyrgyz political development under the Akayev and Bakiyev’s leaderships from declaration of independence to April 2010. Finally, this paper will highlight on how Russia, both as ex-sovereign of the country and the most influential external actor, impacts on the political developments in Kyrgyzstan.
