Summary/Abstract: Together with the changes in working conditions all over the world, the different demands and needs of the employees has led changes in leadership behavior in public sector. Nowadays, in line with the changes in the world, local authorities are expected to behave as a leader rather than as a manager. Hence, this study aims to demonstrate leadership behaviors of local authorities at the level of district governorships in public administration. The district governors, actively working in all the districts of 81 provinces of Turkey, are the population of this research. 524 questionnaires, sent through governorships were applied to all the district governors and analyzed. The analyses of the results indicate that there is a significant difference between the leadership styles and socio-demografic variable. Executives have stated that their behavioral characteristics are like the characteristics of transformational leaders’ characteristics with a higher average when compared to other leadership styles.
