Summary/Abstract: The rural folk culture is expressed through a fundamentally magical vision of the world, superficially Christianized, in which life and death intertwine. The peasants do not have a clear image on sacred and profane, every act of their life takes place in a world animated by spirits. Aiming to rhythm the existence of the community, most folklore manifestations are defined by a dialectics of opposites, based on the dialogue between solemn and smiley, sacred and profane, festive and daily life. The magical element can be found, for example, in the Romanian space, in the folk dance called Hora, preserving the memory of the magical role of assimilating the power of the circle that imitates the movement of the heavenly stars. Being on the periphery of the Western civilization and interfering with the Eastern one, the Romanian world has acquired specific characteristics, preserving very old attitudes and mentalities, a favourable situation for anthropological research, thanks to which we can better understand the evolution of a culture always under the influence of historical avatars.
