Summary/Abstract: In the history of the Romanian-Bulgarian relations, the year of 1913 is a year of unraveling of friendship and good neighbour policies which had existed between Romanians and Bulgarians, two peoples bound by tradition, faith and common interests. Through the Peace of Bucharest (July 28/August 10 1913), Southern Dobrudha (The Qadrilater) was annexed by the Romanian state. This was the start of the separatist movement of disgruntled Bulgarians, fighting the Romanian administation in the region. Their paramilitary formations organised a serios of attacks on the Southern part of Romania, supported by a strong propaganda.Bulgarian Komitadji pillaged and killed public servants, policemen, border guards and peasants alike near the border, with the help of Bulgarian military and civilian authorities, aware that the border was hard to defend.
