Summary/Abstract: This study aims to highlight the importance of the dialogue between theology (orthodox theology) and philosophy (ancient philosophy and christian existentialism) especially today, when philosophy can no longer be seen as the medieval theologians saw it, as ancilla theologiae (the servant of theology). Even if since the 20th century, theology and philosophy have distanced themselves from each other, especially in the academic field, there is nevertheless a common point that makes interdisciplinary dialogue possible, and this is the moral-spiritual and existential aspect. The two meet in the interpretation of the concrete life of man. Both philosophy and especially theology, aim at the transformation of the self, and thus have an existential purpose. Let us not forget that, starting with Socrates, then with Stoicism and Neoplatonism, ancient philosophy promoted a modus vivendi and not just an intellectual exercise. Within Eastern spirituality, the monk was called “the true philosopher” because he embodied in his own life the Christian philosophy, the Christian teaching. Thus, between theology and philosophy there is a great complementarity, as long as the object of the interpretation of both remains man, and his relationship with the Absolute.
