Summary/Abstract: The text examines the appearance of the first sample of written Old Slovenian lan-guage known to modern science, as attested in the oldest Slavic-language written monument with the Latin alphabet – the Freising manuscripts. The most relevant theo-ries about the time and place of their composition, the relationship of the manuscript with the Slovenian language, as well as its connection to the Old Bulgarian language and the Moravian mission of Cyril and Methodius, are presented.
