Summary/Abstract: Today, in the post-communicative era of foreign language teaching, teaching materials are very important for the teaching process. The teacher is encouraged to use authentic materials, but the textbook is still the basic tool in learning a foreign language. A good textbook provides detailed guidance and an effective timetable, syllabus as well as texts, ready to be used at a particular level of learning. The textbook is just as important as the teacher for the student, because it provides teachers with quality support, which corresponds to one of the fundamental principles of modern didactics - from activity to th development. Textbooks, as didactically designed teaching tools, serve students to acquire knowledge and skills, then to form value attitudes, encourage critical thinking, and develop students' intellectual and emotional abilities. The contents of textbooks are determined, according to the Law on Textbooks, by the curriculum. Given that the curriculum reform in the Zenica-Doboj canton at the level of elementary and high school education is in an experimental phase, and that the curricula have already been implemented in the teaching process, a reform of the textbook policy is also necessary, which must accompany the curriculum reform, with the aim quality education and by creating the best possible conditions for teaching. The goals of this research can be seen in: 1. analysis of compliance of the recommended thematic units with textbooks; 2. analysis of compliance of recommended grammar content with textbooks; 3. to the analysis of the compliance of the recommendations for achieving the results with the textbooks.
