Summary/Abstract: Energy policy is considered as an integral part as well as one of the key tools of the contemporary foreign policy of the Russian Federation. This is due to the fact that Russia owns one of the largest stores and sources of the key energy raw materials in the world (oil and gas), as well as the well-built technical and transport infrastructure for their export. An important factor is also the historically constant geopolitical, foreign political and powerimperial ambitions, especially in the post-Soviet area, in which the energy policy has or rather is reaching a more and more important role and position. The aim of the article is to point out the position and place of power in Russia's foreign policy and their close inter-dependence in terms of objectives, geopolitical (geographical) direction of effect, but especially in terms of the tool usage. The structure of the article reflects the review of the fundamental policy documents from foreign, energy as well as security policy in the last 5 years.
