Summary/Abstract: The article deals with both, the protection of buildings that may be sources of accident and the protection of their vicinity. It summarizes present knowledge on accidents and their causes obtained from the literature and own research and inspection during more than a 30-year-long activity. In detail it deals with the organizational accident and with its causes and it sums up the recognitions from the past accidents. At the end it describes the safety management system as the tool for protection of buildings and their vicinity against the impacts of accidents.
