Summary/Abstract: The article presents the size changes of total Bulgarian population on according the proportion of the basic ethnical groups, by sex, age, place of learning and districts – during the 20 th century using the population censuses data conducted 1900–2001. There are made comparisons between the proportional participation of the basic ethnicities in Bulgaria – Bulgarian, Turks and gipsy (Roma) the first one touching about 80% of the total population the second – 9% and Roma – 2–3,5 %. They differ by size and rate of natural increase and migration flows and participate in population structural changes by different stage of demographic transition. The explanation of demographic processes by population structural changes is an efficient role in regarding orientation and formulation of adequate population policy accounting for differentiation between ethnicities.
