Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the differences in childhood conceptualization in European and African society. To remind their mutual historical connection due to the influence of European colonialism, and to emphasize that the violence committed on children in African armed conflicts is not a feature only for African societies. The stress is put on the change of child and childhood consideration in the West, and on the presenting of the general concept of childhood in the traditional African society.
