Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the definition of Local Action Group (LAG) anchoring the system and programs run by the EU and also defines the concept in the Czech Republic. The practical part is to sort the information on selected local action groups, analyze their activities, operating rules and sources of financing. The final output underlines the usefulness of local action groups and the important fact that it is a voluntary community organization in state or non-state sector, profit sector being one of the important actors of the local regional development. The work stems out of the study of documents and outputs and non-standardized interviews with representatives of selected organizations. Based on the evidence, the importance of local action groups as one means of drawing resources from the European Union (EU) is assessed.
