Summary/Abstract: It is necessary to consider that the principles of comparative philology have played an important role in the development of onomastics study. Already in the middle of 19th century one of the first significant works of Indo-European personal names has been constructed with use of the methods of comparativehistorical linguistics (Fick, 1874). Presentation of so-called old European hydronymy in H. Krahe’s works in 20th century actually represents the result of comparative researches. Some linguists which observed and compared ancient proper names, have paid attention to presence of similar units as a part of the different series – anthroponymy, oiconymy, hydronymy, ethnonymy. A quantity of identical units in system of proper names of different languages of the European region allows to think that it is impossible to consider this phenomenon as simple accident. The proper names with a basis Al- in the structure, observed in different languages of the European region are presented and analyzed in article. It is necessary to consider that one of the powerful factors defined formation and a development of proper names is language area. It may be presumed existence of the phenomenon which can be designated as old European onomastics union.
