Summary/Abstract: The new model of onomastics research is offered in manuscript: proper name // geographical, linguistic, cultural-historical and its chronological characteristic. As an example of the use of the specified model the analysis of a personal name But-rim- is offered. This name is fixed in dictionaries of Russian, Belorussian, Polish, Old-Prussian and Lithuanian personal names. It is ascertained that a source of an origin of a proper name But-rim- is anthroponymy of the Baltic languages. Only here this name is perceived as an organic part of ancient proper names. But-rim- is a composite proper name of Indo-European type. It testifies to its archaism (= chronological characteristic). Functioning of the stem of the same origin in structure of personal names of Indo-European languages specifies their archaism and simultaneously is the cultural-historical characteristic (= reflection of the world-view).
