Summary/Abstract: England and Brazil are, probably, the two most important nations in the history of football. The former, because it is the country where the rules of modern, organized football were set; the latter, because it is home to the most successful national team in the world. The aim of this article is to show how football helped the British immigrants of the late 19th and early 20th century integrate into the Brazilian society. The article does not present football just as a sport, but more as a driver of human integration, considering its social, not necessarily its sporting effects.
