Summary/Abstract: Viewed on a large scale, human history reveals many particular features and dynamics that are difficult to grasp even in the most elaborate scientific approaches. In fact, a proper understanding of the dynamics of change in human communities requires well-calibrated analytical tools, but also a certain clarity of purpose. Numerous schools of thought have attempted to decrypt human nature on the basis of the evolution of societies over time, and have gradually built up a sphere of knowledge that is increasingly comprehensive and accessible to a growing number of individuals. Knowledge, seen as a generic term, has a strong initiatory dimension and cannot easily be circumscribed in any other way than relationally. It is therefore understood by establishing specific reference points such as the sources, objectives, types or methods that can be used. Beyond its epistemological value, knowledge is also a social construct that is constantly negotiated and renegotiated between different groups, often constituted in hierarchies of power.
