Summary/Abstract: The critic refers to two works of George Călinescu, one entitled “Poetry Course”, the other one “Poetry’s Universe”, published at different points. It is interesting to see, says Manolescu, how the point of view changes radically. The first study concludes saying that poetry is an “empty form of intellectual activity”. On the contrary, in the second one appears the following premise: poetry does not consider all the things from nature, but only the ones that can be seen as symbols. Whereas at first Călinescu believed that poetry is important because of its organizing, later he says that poems are full of symbolical meanings.
