Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the activities of Rudolf Slánský in Moravská Ostrava in the second half of the 1920s. The study first discusses the ideological mainstreams and historical events in the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, which are necessary to define Slánský’s position within the party. It is argued that he belonged to the party left wing. Furthermore, the paper depicts the role of the Communist Party in the Ostrava region, where two ideological mainstreams clashed, the left and the right wing of the party, the latter represented by Pergler and his followers. The attention is then paid to the Slánský’s rise to the highest party office, which was determined by the Prague headquarters intervention, and to his activities as the party secretary. Several examples prove that Slánský’s strategies rose from his allegiance to the left wing, continuity in his stand in Ostrava can therefore be argued.
