Summary/Abstract: In the first section of article, we take a look at the state of the legal status of women in Ancient Rome, it is shown that unlike private law where the legal condition of women is generally one of inferiority, in criminal law there is in most cases an equality of treatment between the two sexes. In the following sections, three crimes are analysed in which, as the role of women is exclusive or quasi-exclusive, respectively, replacement of the newborn (criminalised in the year 81 before Christ), adultery (criminalised in the year 18 before Christ) and abortion (incriminated in 198-211 AD).
