Summary/Abstract: The article is a research report on the level of speech development of Olsztyn preschoolchildren as compared to the average results of the reference group (the norm).144 five-year-old children were assessed. The level of speech development was measuredwith standardized and normalized research tools, namely: to test articulation–“100 wyrazowy test artykulacyjny” (Krajna 2008); to assess phonemic hearing–“Kartyoceny słuchu fonemowego (KOSF)” (Gruba 2016); to evaluate the level of developmentof lexis and grammar–“Test rozwoju językowego TRJ” (Smoczyńska et al. 2015). Orofacialconditions were also checked. In general, the examined children coped much better withtasks concerning lexis and grammar development than phonetic and phonological ones.In the first case, there were not only more children whose level of language proficiency was assessed as typical of their age, but also the fewest children who were below the average.Among the examined subsystems, the worst results were obtained as regards phonemichearing.
