Summary/Abstract: The article presents a study of culinary advertising from the press of the Free City of Danzig of the 1920s and 1930s and briefly discusses the preliminary results of the research. The author of the article will discuss how this kind of text can be researched from the text-linguistic perspective and the perspective of communicative studies, and what conclusions such an approach will lead to. Advertisements – as products of contemporary activities of linguistic communities and artefacts of a particular culture – are seen as a mirror of social and cultural conditioning. The author of the article will consider what information about the cuisine, culture and the society of those times advertising provides us a century later and how advertisement processes national and international contemporary events on regional and local levels.
