Summary/Abstract: ew people in Hungary know that the last Ottoman viceroy (khedive) of Egypt, Abbas Hilmi II, had a Hungarian wife, countess May Török of Szendrő, known as Djavidan Hanum. Their love marriage became a source of much hearsay, and thus gave rise to several misconceptions with regard to May. The surviving information about her name, date of birth and origins is controversial. The chief goal of the present paper is accordingly to refute the widespread misconceptions on the basis of the early sources. Before all, it proves that the biological father of the “Vicereine of the Nile” was not Count József Török of Szendrő, whose name she bore, but the famous inventor Tivadar Puskás.
