Summary/Abstract: On a sample of 372 undergraduate students (divided into 12 experimental groups), the study finds out that clothing styles (formal vs. casual) of a person introduced as an expert - using pictures and written professional speeches - influences people in assessing professional competence of the experts (F(11,360) = 12,562 at p < 0,01 the One-Way Anova). As refers to the gender similarity/nonsimilarity between the public and the assessed expert, the results show that, comparatively with the male-expert, the female-expert gets higher scores from both women and men.
