Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the obsessive metaphors in the works of Ilie Constantin, a Romanian poet of the ‘60s, dwelling on the recurrent metaphorical networks related to “shores”, “limits”, the “island” and the way these rhetorical figures coalesce in relevant mythical structures, describing the lyric identity. Thus, Ilie Constantin’s poetry can be viewed as a succession of cultural myths deconstructed and transformed into personal myths by the author. The lyrical avatars described in this paper, as they appear in the poems published between 1956-2006, are Ulysses navigating across islands, Narcissus reflecting himself in the Styx, The Prince Charming of the Romanian fairytale Never-Ending Life, Everlasting Youth and Michel Tournier’s Robinson.
