Diversification of innovation in the services sector of the European Union countries

Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses at identifying the differences in innovation levels between the EU member countries, with particular regard to innovation levels in the services sector. Data collected within the CIS 2010 survey, covering the years 2008-2010, was used for a comparative analysis of those aspects of innovation which on the one hand determine its level and on the other make the EU countries different. The EU member economies show huge diversification in the levels of both total innovation and innovation in the services sector. Significant differences were found, inter alia, between the types of innovation implemented, their effects and goals, between the information sources for innovation and between the methods of stimulating new ideas.
