Summary/Abstract: A person experiences different kinds of emotional states throughout life. When he evaluates himself in confrontation with accepted and accepted norms, he may experience feelings of guilt. From a theological perspective, a broader phenomenon is the state of repentance, which not only focuses on experiencing negative feelings about oneself, but also includes a person’s relationship with God. Both of these issues, although described from different perspectives by psychology and theology, affect the functioning of a person, especially if he identifies himself as a believer. This article is an attempt to juxtapose psychological guilt with theological repentance, and to point out practical implications that can help in therapeutic and pastoral work.
