Summary/Abstract: In 1549, the Jesuit mission opened the history of Ibero–Japanese relations, when the first converters landed in Japan. Thanks to the rapid success of evangelization, the Iberians – first the Portuguese, then the Spanish who followed them – sought to establish bilateral relations. But the same can be said about the Japanese. This study presents the initial period of the development of Spanish–Japanese relations, the forms of contacts and their results during the reign of Philip II.
