Summary/Abstract: Born of the same pain, the dirges are spontaneous manifestations with an unstable shape and personalized texts. However, their classification can be made by dividing them by degree of kinship, into dirges "for husband / wife", "for father", "for mother", "for son", "for daughter", for sister " etc. Considered as a ritual obligation in the funeral ceremony, the gesture of not mourning the dead was taxed by the community. The custom of mourning is ancient, universal, indispensable, in Byzantium being attested associations of mourners.
