Summary/Abstract: Beginning from the analysis of the chronicles from the 15th to the 17th century, the present study intends to achieve a reinterpretation of the matrimonial politics of Ştefan cel Mare. Following the evidences offered by the sources, we consider that each of the three successive marriages that the Moldavian prince had contracted, were motivated by profoundly different reasons. As far as the marriage to Evdochia of Kiew is concerned, it may be said that it followed both a family tradition and a path of the Moldavian politics; the other involving Maria of Mangop can be regarded as the fulfillment of the overtaking of the Byzantine inheritance; only the last one, with Maria Voichiţa may be interpreted to have been a proof of Ştefan’s personal sentimentalism.
