Summary/Abstract: The study represents a theoretically descriptive approach to disinformation and arques that the current proportions and aspects of the phenomenon are caused by the third qualitative differentiation of the public space (after writing and the advent of television), determined by the evolution of new information and communication technologies, respectively the unlimited expansion of the degree and access gates of different message vectors (individuals, groups, organizations) in the global public space. The analysis framework has in mind conceptual clarifications, by highlighting the evolving content and borrowing of semantic valences of disinformation with neighboring notions such as propaganda and advertising. Also presented and analyzed are psychosocial mechanisms that make individuals’ and groups’ ability to receive and analyze information vulnerable, as well as technical-digital procedures that aim to enhance the effects of messages with content intended to disinform.
