Summary/Abstract: The present study aims at exploring a significant theme that has been noticeable in the novel ”Bless Me, Ultima” by Rudolfo Anaya, namely the lessons told by Ultima which contribute to the process of Antonio’s development in order to understand the nature and the struggle of his identity through a spiritual journey of guidance. The focus is laid on two perspectives: the first perspective concerns María’s manner to express the significance that La Grande has in their life and the second perspective concerns Ultima’s teachings in allignment with the usual activities that Antonio’s family members are practicing. Therefore, from the first perspective, it can be said that each and every member of Antonio’s family has a similar idea regarding Ultima, and for the second perspective, it is quite obvious that the lessons told by Ultima have often relied on various issues, such as: religion, morality and reality. Based upon these teachings, Antonio is well aware of his cultural background and also the values that his family members appreciate.
