Summary/Abstract: Criticism against liberalism is a common theme in feminism theorizing. I address the feminist relational argument and recent proposals of a relational autonomy perspective that would bridge older divides between certain feminist accounts and liberal political theory. The analysis focuses on the debates around the presuppositions about the self, the tension between care and autonomy and the recent accounts of autonomy developed within such debates. Relational autonomy is not necessarily a new approach, but rather names and brings together certain discourses and theoretical contributions focusing on the aforementioned issues. Within this article I briefly present the relational argument, the new developments within a relational autonomy perspective, as well as some critical points that need to be considered for future theorizing.
