Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes Bulgarian chrononyms associated with selected festive periods characteristic of the spring annual cycle (wolf days, the two weeks leading up to Lent, the first week of Lent). Among the excerpted names, both synthetic and analytical structures were attested, and within them – phonetic (perpetuating characteristic features of Bulgarian dialects) and word-formative variants. In terms of motivation, the studied chrononyms form two basic models: 1) names referring to folk beliefs associated with a given period; 2) names evoking a ritual context.
