Summary/Abstract: The article deals with a handful of very interesting and almost unknown artists, who have contributed their cartoons for the humoristic Bulgaran weekly (1904–1909): Peter Morozov, Peter Paspalev, Ivan Enchev Vidiu, Strashimir Dimov, Iv. Slavov, P. Pavlov, A. Merichlersky, А. Hodina, B. Lazarov, writer Elin Pelin (in his capacity of an artist), etc. Most of these have not been entered either in the Encyclopaedia of Fine Arts, or mentioned in any comprehensive or specialised studies on Bulgarian art. Some of the abovementioned artists occur as authors only in this weekly. Undoubtedly, it was Alexander Bozhinov, who was the uniting figure drawing them to the circles of contributors for Bulgaran, being an artistic filter of a kind in his capacity of the permanent editor-in-chief. The article reconstructs as far as possible the lives of the artists, considering mostly the manners and imagery of their cartoons, pointing at their individual excellence, contribution to the weekly and Bulgarian caricature, arriving at conclusions about the role of Art Nouveau for cartoons naturally apprehended as an integral language in the field of caricature able to express the dynamism of modern times.
