Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the presence of church compositions by Apostol Nikolaev-Strumski (1886–1971) in contemporary musical life, which are among the most popular for performing and recording these days. Particular examples are given of the church and choir repertoire in this country and abroad, of Bulgarian and foreign audio productions, of TV shows and online availability. Against a backdrop of much performed these days church music by Apostol Nikolaev-Strumski, the lack of historical and theoretical studies of his life and work seems illogical. The paper gives the reasons for the composer’s falling into oblivion such as the marginalisation of church music culture under the totalitarianism, his elder son Vsevolod Nikolaev fleeing this country in 1957, his work with the Catholic Church of the Eastern Rite, etc.
