Summary/Abstract: The study examines one of the characteristics of Eastern-Catholic music in Bulgaria - the use of religious songs in the musical church practice. This is the first attempt to research this church music genre of the Catholic church of the Eastern ritual in Bulgaria. Spiritual songs or cantiques spirituels (Fr.), canzoni spirituali (It.), religious songs (Engl.), geistliche Lieder (Germ.) is the common title of a large number of poetic musical religious works. Why have they been included in the musical practice of the Catholic church of Eastern ritual in Bulgaria? What new things they introduce and how are they used? Does such practice exist in the East-Orthodox tradition? Church songs in Eastern-Catholic music are the result of the influence of elements of the Roman- Catholic tradition. They are an expression of the complex intercultural and integration process in the church music tradition, carry a cultural identity and are an important element in the formation of a specific musical tradition of a given community.
