Summary/Abstract: Imagined constructs of people, biographies and achievements are usually very stable. If they are located in a collective belief, they persist in it, and the attempt to rationalize them and indicate a place, level and size that is consistent with reality seems to be a difficult task, perhaps even impossible. My paper is an attempt to address the phenomenon of the (non)existence of Ryszard Kapuściński’s biography, work, and intellectual achievements in the system of Polish primary, secondary and higher education. The main question is whether and to what extent there is a chance for young journalists who have emerged from the context of the Polish educational system to encounter Ryszard Kapuściński’s thoughts, texts, and biographical data during any of their modules as part of their courses in journalism and social communication. The paper has been prepared on the basis of survey data collected at Polish universities offering courses in journalism and social communication as well as in related subjects.
