Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to identify areas of application of blockchain technology in academic libraries. The method of literature analysis and criticism was applied. The research covered the years 2008–2022, and a search was conducted in foreign sources (Web of Science Core Collection database, Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts database, Science Direct database, Scopus database) and Polish sources (The Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities database, BazTech database). The collected material was subjected to formal analysis and content analysis. The literature review shows that blockchain is a technology that can find application in such areas of academic library operations as data storage; management of license agreements and digital rights; support of scholarly communication and open science; management of metadata, data, collections, and collections; management of the loan process; user service, and organization and certification of training.
